The Garfield Movie: Legacy, Laughter And Lasgna

The Garfield Movie

Did you know before there was Chris Pratt doing the voice of Garfield? Bill Murray had voiced everyone’s favorite orange cat. Even before that, about forty years ago, Garfield made his debut in comics. A personality that charmed everyone was built upon a love for food and droopy eyes. Garfield has been a staple in the comic sections ever since his conception in 1978.

In 1982, Here Comes Garfield became the first time Garfield visited the screens. With the artwork done by Jim Davis, the movie saw Garfield transition from being on fours to his laid-back, iconic bipedal stance. By this time, 1980 had already seen the popularity of Garfield as The Cat’s First Book became a New York bestseller.

It also saw the debut of the star now synonymous with the character, Lorenzo Music. This project was followed by a number of specials, like Garfield and Friends, and was nominated for not one but two Emmys. Garfield is about to make a comeback for the big screen, with Chris Pratt voicing the character and Nicholas Hoult as his keeper, Jon Arbuckle.

With names such as Bill Murray and a 40-year-old legacy to uphold, it is to be wondered whether this newest iteration of the character will be well received by the fans. Or if Pratt would be able to add on to the character or not. We’ll find out on May 24, 2024.
