Christopher Nolan is one of the few contemporary Hollywood film makers who has a pretty strong follower base in India. There is a possibility that a major portion of this follower group is there just to look cool and cinematically inclined by backing him.
There is no doubting the insane cinematic capabilities of this iconic film maker, but a few of his recent films have been going above the head.
For instance, we have the case of Oppenheimer recently, which released with a lot of anticipation in India and reasonably well as well. But this was a dialogue oriented biographical film based on a US scientist, which does not necessarily suit the sensibilities of the larger portion of India folk.
Now the stage is set for his next film, The Odyssey, which is releasing in theatres on July 17. If the discussion is about whether or not, this film would suit the sensibility of the Indian audience, this is going to be an interesting proposition altogether.
Firstly, this film is based on greek mythology and has very little connect to the Indian audience. But the Troy story is familiar for a section of the folk and could strike a chord. In terms of action set pieces, this film could be much more promising than the previous Oppenheimer.
Considering the love that Indian audience have for action set pieces, Nolan might have something for them this time around.
Either way, we will know the answer on whether this film would be successful in the Indian market or not only after its release on July 17. But considering the hype game surrounding Nolan, the opening should be pretty strong this time around as well.
