The five men go out on an epic adventure during a citywide blackout, with the Italian Mafia, the Hong Kong Triads, and the Harlem Mob as their targets. Fukunaga has previously contributed to James Bond films such as IT, Beasts of No Nation, Jane Eyre, and No Time to Die.

Under the direction of Fukushima Fukushima, five renegade police officers set out in 1977 to dismantle the Hong Kong Triads, the Italian Mafia, and the Harlem Mob. They navigate the night mob during a blackout in New York City, confronting their morality and conscience while putting in long hours at labour.

The movie is set in a dark period of history, a common device in “purge” films. It’s unclear if Fukushima will finally direct the movie without facing backlash from the public after being accused of acting inappropriately on True Detective and other productions.
