Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, starring Selena Gomez as Alex Russo and David Henrie as her elder brother Justin Russo, will return with a pilot produced by Disney Branded Television. Gomez will appear in the pilot episode, and Henrie will be a series regular as Justin Russo.
It appears Selena Gomez is returning to her origins. The pop queen will executive produce a revival of Wizards of Waverly Place for Disney, alongside David Henrie, who portrayed her brother in the original series. Gomez joyously revealed the news on her Instagram Story, including a snapshot of herself and Henrie during their time on the show years ago. “We’re back,” she captioned.
According to a source, Disney Branded Television ordered a pilot for the series. The first episode will have Gomez reprising her role as Alex Russo. The premise of the new series will begin with Justin Russo (played by Henrie) living his life as an adult after giving up his wizard talents. Yet, while residing with his spouse and two children, a young magician arrives at his home seeking training. This would serve as the foundation for the remainder of the first season’s apparent narrative.
New cast members for the program include Janice LeAnn Brown (Disney’s Just Roll with It), Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat), and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess). The new relaunch was developed by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who previously worked on Disney’s Raven’s Home spinoff. It is uncertain whether any of the classic Wizard of Waverly Place characters will return.
