One of this year’s biggest hits, The Kerala Story, featuring Adah Sharma, collected more than Rs. 200 crores at the box office.
The film has received appreciation from a section of the audience who endorse the demonization of a particular community in India. On the other hand, there are people who dismissed it as a vile propaganda film that is detrimental to the secular decorum of the country, like The Kashmir Files.
Despite its success at the box office, it is being reported that the film has no takers on OTT. Director Sudipto Sen stated that they are still waiting for a suitable offer from any OTT platform and believe that the film industry has ganged up against his film and is trying to punish them for its success.
According to the latest reports, the producers are quoting astronomical prices for the OTT rights of The Kerala Story. But the OTT platforms have become smart enough to avoid falling into their trap. Last time, they had to swallow a bitter pill when they bought The Kashmir Files at exorbitant rates based on its box office performance. But the film turned out to be a huge flop on OTT as the digital audience found it mediocre.
The Kerala Story has already been watched in theaters by most people who endorse such cinema. The OTT players are not ready to pay the amount being quoted by the makers as they are pretty sure this film is not a quality product and will repeat The Kashmir Files scenario on OTT.
