Poorna aka Shamna said “Yes.” She changed her name for her debut film in Tamil as many Tamilians couldn’t get the name right and started addressing her as ‘Shamala’. Even tabloids misspelled her name as Shamala. Finally, the makers of her Tamil debut movie suggested her to go for a name change.
She approached a numerologist and finally chose ‘Poorna’ out of the many names she went through. Shamna is a Muslim by religion. In Malayalam movies, she used her original name. But, for Tamil and later for Telugu movies, she continued using Poorna as her screen name.
