Thaman has dominated Telugu cinema for years. He continues to bag big projects and remains one of the busiest music directors in the industry. But his recent work raises a serious question: Is he compromising on quality by taking up too many films?
The problem is becoming difficult to ignore. This year alone, Thaman has worked on several high-profile films, including The Raja Saab and Aadarsha Kutumbam. Yet, the musical impact has been largely missing. Lenin was a notable exception. Though the songs are largely forgettable, Thaman more than made up for it with his background score. His BGM felt fresh and elevated key moments.
But his latest film Aadarsha Kutumbam AK47 has made the backlash even louder. A Trivikram film naturally raises expectations for its music. Thaman had earlier delivered impressive albums for Aravinda Sametha and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Even Guntur Kaaram had chartbusters like Kurchi Madathapetti.
But Aadarsha Kutumbam has no such standout song. The background score also sounded repetitive for the most part.
This is not just about one disappointing album. Thaman’s recent output has triggered questions about his consistency. Social media backlash may sometimes be excessive, but the repeated complaints about his music cannot simply be dismissed as trolling.
Now, there is another interesting development. Reports suggest that Trivikram may not be considering Thaman for his next film with NTR, tentatively titled God of War. Anirudh Ravichander is reportedly the likely choice.
If this happens, it will be a significant change for the Trivikram-Thaman combination. For Thaman, the message is clear. He needs to bring back the musical quality that made him one of Telugu cinema’s most sought-after music directors.
