Akhanda 2 is now just 8 days away from release, and the excitement around the film as of now can be considered slightly underwhelming. The production team is clearly aiming at a wider audience, especially in the North Indian market. The promotions reflect that strategy. They launched a song in Mumbai and continued events in Vizag and Hyderabad. The team is planning more activities in the coming days.
According to inside reports, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to attend the prerelease event scheduled for Friday. Because of his friendship with Balakrishna and his past connection with TDP, these reports may turn out to be true. However, the makers have not confirmed it officially.
The buzz around Akhanda 2 mainly comes from the massive success of the first part. The original Akhanda played a key role in bringing people back to theatres after the pandemic. Many viewers still remember the energy, the mass appeal and the devotional tone of the film. Expectations for the sequel are naturally high.
However, the released songs didn’t create any impact. The trailer also triggered divided reactions, with some trolling it as usual Boyapati over the top cinema and cringe elements. Still, none of this has affected theatrical business. The film is selling well in advance distribution, and reports say the makers are targeting a Rs. 200-crore benchmark.
Some trade analysts feel the hype is not matching the expectations set when the film was announced. It was touted as Balakrishna’s biggest film and was expected to achieve one of the biggest openings for a senior hero. Now, even though the business range remains high, the hype among the general audience is not as strong as expected.
With less than 10 days to go, the team needs to release strong promotional content or ensure the prerelease event creates massive impact so that audiences rush to theatres on day one.
As of now, the plan is to premiere Akhanda 2 one evening before release. The producers are waiting for permission before making the announcement. Ticket prices may increase slightly, but the makers claim they will keep them reasonable. In Telugu states, Akhanda 2 will release without direct competition. In the Hindi market, it will clash with Ranveer Singh’s spy action thriller Dhurandhar, and this may affect Akhanda 2 collections on the pan India level.
Despite mixed reactions to the promotional material, the team remains confident. They believe Akhanda 2 will impress audiences more than the first film and deliver a powerful theatrical experience.
