Producers of the Tamil Film Industry had to come together to bring some peace when the Theatre Owners Association and distributors have unilaterally decided to ban the theatrical releases of films of those producers who opted for OTT releases during the lockdown period.
However, keeping the sufferings of the makers of the small and medium budget films in mind, a group of producers have come out and issued a statement that small and medium budget films have the right to opt for an OTT release.
Once the normalcy is restored, obviously, they would prefer theatrical releases. In the case of big-budget films with big stars, all of them would wait until the lockdown period is over and then, go for only the theatrical releases.
Recently, there was a buzz that Vijay Ilayapathy’s ‘Master‘ might opt for an OTT release. It wasn’t true and the makers clarified that they would wait till the pandemic comes to rest and only theatrical release for the mass star’s movie.
All this debate and hungama was set in motion when Suriya’s production house decided that Jyothika starter ‘Pon Magal Vandhal’ will go for a direct OTT release. The makers also asserted their right and appealed to the Theatre Owners Association and distributors to consider the woes of small producers.
