Can 60+ Heroes Save Their Industries?

They were expected to deliver big blockbusters but have failed spectacularly, leaving the industry in the doldrums. Now the industry has pinned its hopes on 60-plus-year-old superstars to revive its fortunes during the Independence Day weekend.

In Tollywood, star heroes like Prabhas and Pawan Kalyan had big flops. Now the industry is once again banking on 67-year-old Chiranjeevi, who delivered the biggest hit of the year, Waltair Veerayya. His upcoming film, Bholaa Shankar, is releasing this week.

Vijay and Ajith have also not succeeded in a big way in the Tamil industry this year. But the trade is hopeful that a 72-year-old Rajinikanth might deliver the year’s biggest hit with Jailer. The film’s advance bookings are promising, and if the content turns out to be good, then there will be no stopping this film, not only in the Tamil states but also overseas and in the Telugu states.

In Bollywood, too, heroes like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgn have delivered some of the biggest disasters this year.

Except for Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, there hasn’t been another true-blue blockbuster in Hindi cinema. Now a 90s superstar, 65-year-old Sunny Deol is returning with Gadar 2 this week. The film has gotten phenomenal advance bookings, especially in the mass centers, due to the recall value of the historic blockbuster Gadar (2001).

Let’s see if these super senior heroes can save their industries, which the younger lot of stars failed to do.
