The teaser for ‘King of Kotha’ was released on Wednesday in five languages. The Telugu version was promoted digitally by Mahesh Babu. Thanks to ‘Sita Ramam’ and ‘Mahanati’, the Telugu audience are well aware of Dulquer Salmaan’s acting talent.
But then, ‘King of Kotha‘ is more about screen presence. The Mollywood star hero plays a domineering role in this gangster action drama where swag must do all the magic.
‘Pushpa: The Rise’ became what it became due to Sukumar’s treatment and amazing songs. And there is a towering factor that was present: the film was accentuated by Allu Arjun’s swag. His ‘Theggede le’ and punchlines like ‘Flower.. fire’ were not just the icing on the cake but they also amplified the film’s mass masala credentials.
Is it possible for Dulquer to pull off a Bunny? In the realm of Malayalam cinema, the bar for swag is set relatively low. Cinephlines might take offence if the truth is told but it is what it is. However, when it comes to the Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil audience, the standards for ‘swag’ are considerably higher. Allu Arjun has managed to excel in this regard, but Dulquer faces a formidable challenge.
‘King of Kotha’ is directed by Abhilash Joshiy. Aishwarya Lekshmi has a key role in it. The film will be released for Onam this August.
