Mumbai Indians have appointed Kieron Pollard as their new head coach ahead of IPL 2027. The former West Indies all rounder has been promoted from his role as batting coach after Mahela Jayawardene stepped down earlier this month.
Kieron Pollard has been part of Mumbai Indians since IPL 2010 and played a key role in the team’s success over the years.
He won five IPL titles with the franchise in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 before retiring from the tournament in November 2022.
After his retirement, Pollard continued working with MI as their batting coach from the 2023 season. He will now lead the coaching staff as the franchise prepares for the 2027 season.
Speaking about his appointment, Pollard said, It is an honour to take on the role of head coach of Mumbai Indians. MI has been a huge part of my life and career, and the bond I share with this team, the players and the Paltan means a great deal to me.
Pollard also thanked Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani and the MI family for trusting him with the role. He said he wants to work closely with the players and support staff and help the team continue its success.
Jayawardene served as MI head coach from 2017 to 2022 before returning for another stint from 2024 to 2026. Pollard will now take over the role as Mumbai Indians look ahead to IPL 2027.
