A new trend seems to be emerging in Telugu cinema.
Recently, Ram Pothineni surprised everyone by deciding to direct his next film himself. Not only will he play the lead role, but he is also reportedly writing the script.
Now, another Telugu actor is taking a similar route.
According to the latest reports, Sudheer Babu is all set to make his directorial debut. The actor is said to be working on his own story and plans to direct himself in the lead role.
Sudheer Babu has consistently tried to carve out his own identity in Telugu cinema. Unlike many actors, he has experimented with different genres and characters. However, despite his sincere efforts, he hasn’t achieved much success. His recent films, Harom Hara, Maa Nanna Superhero, and Jatadhara, all ended up as box office washouts, adding to the pressure.
Despite being part of one of Telugu cinema’s biggest families, he has repeatedly said he never wanted to use those connections for professional gain. In one of his interviews, Sudheer Babu said, “If I ask myself who I am, the immediate answer is Krishna’s son-in-law and Mahesh Babu’s brother-in-law. I say this with pride. But my films, whether successes or failures, are entirely the result of my own choices. I have never asked Mahesh Babu for help, even though he has always been ready to support me.”
Now, after years of trying different directors and scripts, Sudheer appears ready to take complete control of his creative journey.
Of course, acting and directing at the same time is never easy. Many actors have tried it with mixed results. But when things aren’t working, taking charge yourself sometimes feels like the only option.
Interestingly, Ram Pothineni and Sudheer Babu seem to have decided not to wait for the perfect script or the perfect director. Instead, they are backing themselves.
Whether that gamble pays off remains to be seen, but it certainly reflects a growing trend. When repeated failures close one door, some actors choose to build a new one themselves.
