There were no real big winners, as the expected few films shared awards among them. Still, there were some memorable moments with Roger A Deakins winning the Best Cinematography award after the most number of nominations without having one, and similarly, James Ivory, Best Adapted Screenplay, becoming the oldest person to win an award at the age of 89.
The Shape of Water won The Best Picture and Best Director for Guillermo del Toro, Three Billboards At Ebbing Missouri won Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor. These two films were biggest sensations of the night. Gary Oldman won his first Oscar as Best Actor for the Winston Churchill biopic Darkest Hour. Allison Janney won the Best Supporting Actress trophy for I, Tonya. A Fantastic Woman, was adjudged the Best Foreign Language movie.
