Day 1 BO: How Did Jana Nayagan Open?

Jana Nayagan box office update

Thalapathy Vijay has returned to the big screens for one last time with his latest film Jana Nayagan, which released in theatres on July 23. This is essentially the Tamil remake of Bhagavant Kesari and a poor one at it.

It was always expected that this film must entirely run based on the star image of Vijay, and that is exactly the case now as well.

Early reviews and public reactions have been very discouraging for this film as people are calling at a cringe and repetitive social drama that offers nothing fresh and new to the audience.

Hadn’t it been for the CM hype for Vijay and his insane commercial reach in the Tamil market this film could have gone South on the very first day itself. But luckily, it could post significant revenue on the opening day as fans turned up in big numbers.

The film is certain to collect more than Rs 100 Crore at the global box office with the majority of the revenue coming from the overseas market. The Tamil Nadu domestic revenue is in the vicinity of ₹40 crore which is a reasonably good number.

Overall, this film might not give a record breaking start for Vijay on the lines of Leo, which collected more than ₹145 crore. But considering the low hype, and also multiple factors including delayed release, social media leaks and piracy before theatrical release, the Vijay mania has still pushed this film to reasonably safe shore.
