After Spider-Man Shock, Is Prabhas Fauzi in Big Danger?

Prabhas Fauzi faces Hollywood competition

Hollywood seems to be rewriting the box office rules in India. Despite mixed reactions to their content, audiences are flocking to theatres for the big-screen experience offered by films like The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Spectacle is proving to be a bigger draw than reviews.

The impact has been clearly visible in the Telugu market.

Chennai Love Story, which enjoyed a strong first week, slowed down considerably after Spider-Man’s release. Srinivasa Mangapuram, meanwhile, turned into a washout, with poor occupancy forcing several shows to be replaced by Spider-Man screenings across several centres.

That trend raises an interesting question about December 2026.

Two of Hollywood’s biggest event films, Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three, are expected to dominate the Indian box office during the holiday season. That could become a serious challenge for Prabhas’ Fauzi, which is scheduled to release on December 3.

If both Hollywood giants live up to expectations, they could pull a massive share of the urban multiplex audience, a segment where Hollywood has become increasingly dominant.

Fauzi, of course, has one major advantage: Prabhas. His pan-India stardom should guarantee a massive opening regardless of the competition. But beyond the opening weekend, everything will depend on the film’s content. If Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three receive strong word of mouth, sustaining momentum could become far more difficult for Fauzi.

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has once again shown that Indian audiences are willing to prioritize spectacle and the premium theatrical experience, even over local releases. If that trend continues, December could witness one of the fiercest box office clashes in recent years.

For Fauzi, the margin for error will be extremely small. A genuinely strong film can thrive even alongside Hollywood blockbusters. But if the word of mouth is anything short of exceptional, the combined force of Marvel and Dune could prove fatal for Prabhas’ Fauzi at the Indian box office.
