Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana: Part One is setting new benchmarks even before its release.
After securing major distribution partnerships, the makers are now aiming to create history in the music business with what could become the biggest music rights deal ever for an Indian film.
The film’s soundtrack, composed by Oscar-winning music legends AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, has sparked intense interest among the country’s leading music labels.
According to reports, Sony Music, T-Series, Saregama, Universal and several other players are in the race to acquire the global, all-language music rights.
While Sony Music has reportedly placed the highest bid so far at Rs 70 crore, T-Series is said to have offered around Rs 60 crore.
However, producer Namit Malhotra is reportedly holding out for a deal close to Rs 100 crore, a figure that would comfortably surpass every previous music rights agreement for a Hindi film.
If the target is achieved, Ramayana: Part One will rewrite the record books.
The current benchmark is held by Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge, whose music rights were reportedly acquired by T-Series for Rs 54 crore.
The ambitious music deal comes on the heels of another massive business move.
The makers recently partnered with Sony Pictures for the film’s international distribution in a first-of-its-kind arrangement.
Instead of paying an upfront acquisition fee, Sony Pictures has reportedly committed around USD 25 million, approximately Rs 235 crore, towards the film’s overseas marketing campaign.
The production house is expected to contribute another USD 15 million, taking the total global marketing budget to nearly USD 40 million, or around Rs 375 crore.
With such unprecedented investments, the team is focused on recovering a significant portion of the film’s cost through non-theatrical rights even before it reaches cinemas.
Meanwhile, the trailer, which was initially expected to arrive on July 24, has been postponed. The makers are yet to announce a revised launch date.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and headlined by Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, Ramayana: Part One is scheduled for a grand theatrical release during Diwali 2026.
