In 2014, during the Ganesh Chaturdhi celebrations, the devotees of Lord Ganesha were hurt badly because of the series of tweets posted by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma making fun of Lord Ganesha.

A petition filed by an advocate came to hearing before Madhya Pradesh High Court and the High Court issued orders to police to probe into the case to find out if RGV’s tweets amount to culpable offence. The tweets were so instigating that they led to online trolling for hurting the sentiments of the Hindus.
