Baby director Sai Rajesh who is one of the producers of Chennai Love Story with Kiran Abbavaram, has opened to an extremely mixed response, mainly because of its second half.
In short, the second half fails to live up to the strong foundation laid by the first half. The writing, including the climax, does not land effectively, making the entire second half a difficult and a boring watch. This feedback has been reflected widely on social media, with many viewers expressing that the second half is hard to consume, digest, and sit through.
Social media discussions have also highlighted reports of mass walkouts from theatres during the second half of Chennai Love Story.
Interestingly, Sai Rajesh openly admitted that they received this ‘Walk outs’ feedback during premiere shows screenings.
Sai Rajesh gives the same excuses. He said, “We worked very hard, but we had to meet the release date, and we didn’t have enough time in hand.”
He revealed that the film was re-edited, especially the second half, with support from Annapurna Studios, and sent to theatres. However, the impact of these changes remains to be seen.
This also raises a question about how the basic issues in the second half, which tested audience patience and eventually affected the goodwill created by the first half, were not identified earlier by the team.
That said, it is refreshing to see Sai Rajesh acknowledge the negative feedback openly and talk about the changes made after the release.
