It is all but confirmed that Prabhas and Prashanth Neel’s Salaar is getting postponed. The film is deferring the release plan from September 28 to a later date. The same will be confirmed soon.
Coming to the point, what is the degree of losses the buyers will suffer with this postponement? Here is a brief report on the same.
With the USA pre-sales at $500K, Salaar had a stellar opening a month prior to its release. However, sadly for the USA distributor, the party is over quickly after it started. But there’s a positive here.
In the case of RRR, the postponement announcement was made 1 week before the release. As a result of which, the distributor who had already spent a lot on the promotions and delivery of content from Qube to the theaters, had to scrap it all. He ended up losing $250K from his pocket.
Rajamouli vowed to decrease this tally in the USA deal but this wasn’t done. But with the film collecting over $14 million in USA, the distributor wasn’t pecky about the $250K.
In the case of Salaar, the postponement decision is made in advance, when compared to RRR. So, the distributor evaded the loss of publicity costs. He will have to cancel the shows in the theaters and this might cost him related amount, but other than that, there isn’t too big of a loss.
Those who bought the tickets will be losing some money as the service charge included in the ticket booking wont be refunded.
As for the theaters, they will be more tentative about allotting the shows to the distributor next time. They will be apprehensive about giving the distributor a substantial number of shows next time and the distributor will have to deal with this.
As for the interest amounts paid to the producer, this is an unavoidable loss and it cant be avoided.
