Hyderabad may be staring at a severe water crisis due to the deserted rains and no inflows to the reservoirs. Hyderabad receives 70% of its water needs from Nagarjuna Sagar where now the water levels are at alarming levels.
If the rains continue to disappoint the city will be in line for a water scarcity from September. If the water levels further drop in Nagarjunasagar, the officials will to get emergency pumps installed and supplied. If the situation further worsen, they would have to draw backwaters from Srisailam.

The government is still pinning hopes on the monsoon. If the monsoon disappoints, it could pose a serious threat to the city’s water supply not only now but also can might impact supplies next summer too.
