Sharwanand holds a unique place among Tollywood stars. He doesn’t fit into the usual tier system, whether Tier 2 or Tier 3. It is hard to categorize him that way. However, the goodwill he enjoys among family audiences and a section of the youth still works in his favor.
With his recent films, Nari Nari Naduma Murari and Biker, he has managed to revive that goodwill, which had faded significantly. That is a positive sign.
On the flip side, the bigger concern is his theatrical market. It is still not showing real recovery. Nari Nari Naduma Murari performed decently during the festival season, but it fell short of expectations due to his inconsistent track record in recent years. Now, Biker has turned into a clear disaster, both in North America and the Telugu states.
Even though Biker was an ambitious attempt to revive his theatrical standing, it has not translated into numbers. At the same time, not every film needs to deliver big at the box office. In Sharwanand’s case, Biker at least helped rebuild some goodwill.
But going forward, he needs a film that delivers on both fronts, goodwill and strong theatrical numbers. Only then can we say he is truly back. Until then, he remains in a phase of struggle.
