Becoming a director in the film industry is one thing. Getting someone to trust you with a film is another.
For a newcomer, a good story and the confidence to direct are only the starting points. The bigger challenge is convincing a producer to put money behind an unfamiliar name. In an industry where a film can involve a huge investment, that first opportunity is rarely easy to get.
This is where some established Telugu filmmakers are now making a difference.
Sukumar has been doing it consistently through Sukumar Writings. The banner backed Kumari 21F, Uppena and Virupaksha, giving filmmakers such as Palnati Surya Pratap, Buchi Babu Sana and Karthik Dandu opportunities to make their mark.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga is also backing a newcomer with Romanchakam. Presented by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and produced by Pranay Reddy Vanga, the film marks Venu Gopal Reddy’s directorial debut.
Venu Udugula followed a similar path with Raju Weds Rambai, backing debutant Saailu Kampati as director. Nag Ashwin, meanwhile, gave Anudeep KV a major platform with Jathi Ratnalu after noticing his work through a short film.
Prasanth Varma has also handed the director’s chair to Puja Aparna Kolluru for Mahakali, part of his cinematic universe.
The common thread is simple: once filmmakers reach a position where they can take that risk, some are choosing to give newcomers the opportunity they once needed, a first chance, backed by real trust and investment.
