Tollywood is bringing back nostalgia for movie buffs by re-releasing fan-favorite films in theaters. It all started with the special shows of Okkadu and Pokiri’s 4K versions last year to celebrate Superstar Mahesh Babu’s birthday.
This whole process of re-releasing films is not an easy one. The re-mastering of the film alone can be costly—around Rs. 20 lakh—if the original print is not readily available.
On top of that, theater owners are not giving screens to re-release the films, mainly after some unfortunate incidents that happened in the recent past where over-enthusiastic fans created a ruckus in the theaters and even destroyed the property.
And even if some theater owners are providing theaters, they are now setting strict rules for the re-release of the films. They are taking huge advances from the fans, and after taking advances, they are taking surety signs from them in case of any untoward incident.
Because of these reasons, releasing films on a big scale on a huge number of screens is becoming impossible for re-releases.
The latest victims are Mahesh Babu fans, who are facing a lot of difficulties getting theaters in Andhra Pradesh to screen Businessman in 4K this week on the occasion of Mahesh Babu’s birthday.
