TTD Chairman BR Naidu has started focusing on other temples affiliated with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). While TTD directly manages 12 major temples and their sub-shrines in Tirupati and Tirumala, it also supports many others through construction and grants.
Some of these temples haven’t been maintained well, and BR Naidu is taking steps to fix that. He recently made a surprise visit to the Venkatapalem TTD Temple and took action against several management lapses, including poor decoration of the deity. He plans to conduct similar visits to other temples soon.
“Today I made a surprise visit to the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Venkatapalem. I went for darshan like a regular devotee and noticed negligence in management from the decoration of the deity to staff behaviour. We won’t tolerate such carelessness. Strict action will be taken against those who fail in their duties,” BR Naidu wrote on X.
He also said, “From now on, we’ll make surprise visits to all Srivari temples across India to improve service quality for devotees.”
His decision to visit temples like a common devotee is being widely appreciated. It helps reveal real issues and ensures better sanctity and amenities at temples.
According to the 2024-25 budget, TTD spends ₹190 crore annually on engineering maintenance for its 12 core temples and ₹113.50 crore on grants for temple renovations nationwide a total of nearly ₹300 crore each year.
Given these large expenses, it’s crucial for TTD to ensure proper management. When TTD oversees a temple, devotees expect high standards. These surprise visits help maintain those standards and preserve the sanctity of the temples.
