Center Sits on Telangana New Districts Proposal

But the Union government is yet to notify them in the official gazette. Several requests made by the state government to the center in this regard were paid deaf ear.

As a result, the state is losing out on the Centre’s grants for development of backward areas sanctioned under the Backward Regions Grant Fund. Backward districts are given 50 Crore each every year. The absence of mention in the Centre’s official gazette is also contributing to administrative problems as there are no allocated IAS and IPS officers.

Usually, the Union government grants IAS cadre strength to states based on the number of districts and TS cadre strength continues to remain the same which was determined based on 10 old districts. The issue is pending with the Union home ministry and the new districts are likely to be notified before March 31st.
