The Union Government has confirmed that it has no intention to change the contractor for Polavaram Project since it would have huge financial implications on the center which is mandated to fund the project according to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.

The State Government is keen on getting the contractor replaced since the existing contractor, Transstroy did not have the financial resources or expertise to complete the project on time. Union Water Resources Minister, Nitin Gadkari will speak to Chandrababu very soon on this issue.
On the other side, Transtroy says that the project is being totally unprofitable for them but they will be completing it as per the plan if the government co-operates with them. According to the latest estimates, the project costs about 45000 Crore.
