The political scene in the Telugu states has taken a new turn. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu plans to meet Telangana TDP leaders on Tuesday evening. The meeting has sparked curiosity about his next move in Telangana, as his focus was mainly on Andhra Pradesh after the elections.
With the Jubilee Hills bypolls and local body elections approaching, Chandrababu seems ready to revive the Telangana TDP. Many are eager to know if the party will contest the GHMC elections later this year. Although TDP still has its cadre in Telangana, it has stayed away from polls since the state’s bifurcation.
Political analysts believe the TDP may back the TBJP since it already has an alliance with the BJP and Jana Sena in Andhra Pradesh. There’s also speculation about whether the party will contest the Jubilee Hills bypoll and other local elections. Chandrababu’s meeting has clearly stirred political discussions.
Reports suggest that Chandrababu will soon decide on the Telangana TDP’s new president. Committees at the village, mandal, and district levels are expected to be restructured. Teegala Krishna Reddy and Arvind Goud, both active in the party, are said to be top contenders for the post. Meanwhile, rumours say BRS leader Malla Reddy is interested in leading the TDP in Telangana.
Tensions between the AP and Telangana governments over Banakacharla continue. Analysts are now asking if TDP’s renewed activity in Telangana will influence the issue. Whether the party contests in Jubilee Hills, with its large settler base, or waits until the next assembly elections remains a key question in both Telugu states.
