CP Radhakrishnan elected Vice President of India

CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as the new Vice President of India. Backed by the NDA, he secured 452 votes while his opponent managed 300 first preference votes. With this, Radhakrishnan officially takes charge as the 15th Vice President of the country.

A seasoned politician and businessman, Radhakrishnan previously served as the Governor of Maharashtra and Jharkhand. He has been associated with RSS and BJP since his youth and was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999.

He also held the role of BJP state president in Tamil Nadu. At 67 years of age, Radhakrishnan succeeds Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down due to health reasons. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah congratulated him on this new responsibility.

Meanwhile, Sudershan Reddy, who lost the contest, accepted the result gracefully, affirming his faith in democratic values. Biju Janata Dal, Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti, and Shiromani Akali Dal abstained from voting during the election process.
