Recently, multiple students fell sick due to food poisoning at IIIT, located in Nuzivedu. Andhra Pradesh’s Minister of Education, Nara Lokesh, took the issue seriously.
He backed the IIIT Director Chandrashekar for being ignorant towards the food given to students at the institute. Chandrashekar, who was a professor at NIT Warangal, was appointed as the IIIT Director by the previous YCP government.

Meanwhile, Lokesh also appointed a three-member committee to review the facilities and management at the IIIT. The committee will take complaints on sensitive issues and take necessary action to resolve them promptly.
Education Commissioner of the institute, Pola Bhaskar, the Higher Education Department’s in-charge chairman Ram Mohan Rao and Eluru district collector Vetri Selvi will be the members of this committee.

The committee will develop an action plan to establish operational protocols aimed at maintaining the quality of food served to students and ensuring hygiene standards in the mess.
Hostel facilities will be examined, and improvements will be made where necessary. An internal committee will be created to address cases of sexual harassment within the institute.

Additionally, the committee will enforce stringent regulations to reduce drug and tobacco use among students.
The committee also plans to form a wellness team to assist students in managing mental stress and enhancing their overall lifestyle. This wellness team consists of the student welfare Dean and two professors as members. Students and parents will be representatives of this team.
