Ganta Srinivasa Rao is a perfect weather politician. He always senses electoral directions rightly and ends up in the right party to enjoy power. His calculation for some reason went wrong for the first time in 2019.
He won as an MLA but ended up in the losing party.
After the elections for the first three – three and a half years, Ganta stood aloof from the Telugu Desam Party and there were continuous reports about him joining the YSR Congress. The party change did not happen and at the same time, Ganta never tried to counter those reports.
In fact, his actions of being silent only fuelled those speculations. He used to stay away even from Chandrababu Naidu whenever the latter used to visit Uttarandhra.
He even unilaterally resigned in support of the Steel Plant.
In the last year or so, he decided to continue in TDP itself for 2024 and became active in the party. He took a firm decision after the MLC elections went TDP’s way.
For the last couple of months, Ganta has been trying too hard to become relevant in AP politics.
In fact, he is one of the top three most active TDP leaders in giving statements criticizing Jagan Mohan Reddy.
All these attempts are like trying to recover spilled milk.
But due to his attitude, neither the politicians nor the public are taking him seriously. TDP cadre were vexed with him as well. Ganta despite being a turncoat politician, Chandrababu gave him utmost prominence and also, an important position in his cabinet.
Chandrababu took the side of Ganta in his tussle with another senior leader, Ayyannapathrudu.
Even then, Ganta’s behavior until recently did not impress the cadre or the local leaders.
Even if Ganta wins in 2024 and TDP comes to power, it is unlikely that he would enjoy the same clout in the party and the government as before.
