The US authorities are being quite strict about Indians being smuggled into the US through illegal means and are cracking down on people facilitating such moves. One such person involved in multiple charges of alien smuggling and conspiracy happens to be Indian citizen Simranjit Singh or ‘Shally’ Singh, 40, residing in Canada.
He was extradited to the US from Canada last week on charges of multiple charges of alien smuggling. Following a request from the United States government, he was taken into custody in June 2022. He has been extradited to the US in March 2023.
He has charges of three counts of conspiracy to commit alien smuggling for profit and six additional counts of alien smuggling for profit, which means that he was involved in trying to smuggle Indians from Canada to the US via Cornwall Island and the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation in the St Lawrence River region between March 2020 and March 2021.
As of now, these are mere accusations, and Singh will be innocent till proven guilty.
