Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will start its 14th Branch in India in Vishakapatnam. This is one of the promises made to Andhra Pradesh in the bifurcation bill. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu met Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and asked her to begin classes from this year itself. Andhra University will temporarily host these classes and Chandra Babu had already instructed officials there to make the arrangements.

Smriti Irani responded positively to the proposal. On the other side, Andhra Pradesh government had already started land acquisition for the permanent buildings of the campus. On the other side, Andhra University are not so happy with the proposal as the governments will continue to ignore their demand of upgrading Andhra University in to a Central University.
