Modi government managed to avoid embarrassment in Rajya Sabha by stalling the voting on KVP Ramchandra Rao’s Private Member Bill stating that it is a Money Bill and can not be taken up in the Upper House. At this juncture, Jairam Ramesh went on to say that Jaitley misled the house saying that Finance Commission did not allow Special Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Deputy Chairman Kurien intervened and asked him not to get into the issue and stick only to the matter if the bill is a Money Bill or not. As Jairam Ramesh persisted, he went on to advise him to put up a Privilege Motion that the Leader of the House misled the house with false information.
It has to be seen if Congress uses the opportunity further to corner Modi government. If the Privilege Motion is put up and Jairam Ramesh was able to prove that Jaitley misled the house, it will be a big shame to the Central government. But all that will depend on Congress’ Political will on the issue.
