Kavitha sat in dharna at Velugumatla where 700 houses of the poor were demolished by the state government. The lands were part of the Bhoodan parcel and it is understandable someone had to raise their voice.
Kavitha was taken into custody for a short while and released immediately by the Khammam police. However, in the night on Monday, Kavitha reached Amvedkar Bhavan and sat in fast. The 700 families were dislocated to local function halls and school buildings. Kavitha raised her voice against the “bulldozer politics” of the Revanth sarkar only to be shifted to Hyderabad from Khammam by the police. Kavitha was demanding that pattas be given to the families at the same place.
The state officials have maintained that they were simply reclaiming the government land as part of the Bhoodan land. This impacted the lives of 700 families with the issue turning into a flashpoint for a heated political debate.
Political parties are supposed to raise their voice against the government when people are affected. It is a democratic norm. But Kavitha turning into a firebrand politician is being questioned by Telangana political watchers. Is it genuine concern or a mere platform to grab attention and establish her position as an activist politician, they wonder.
The Jagruthi members insist it is the silenced activist from BRS trying to fight for human rights. But political observers feel it is a calculated move by Kavitha to relaunch herself in a new avatar after shrugging off KCR’s legacy.
The talk in political circles is that Kavitha just wants visibility before launching her new party.
