Reports from sections of the media suggest that former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and former minister Harish Rao may be summoned in the Telangana phone tapping case. Sources indicate this development could take place after the Assembly session.
Leaders of the BRS have reacted strongly to these reports. They allege the move is a diversionary tactic by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, especially as KCR has announced plans to become active in public life and attend major public meetings.
Beyond the political claims, the seriousness of the phone tapping case remains uncertain. Observers say the government’s intent will be judged by how decisively it proceeds. Past cases involving senior leaders have raised similar questions.
Earlier, KCR was summoned by the Justice PC Ghose Commission over alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The in camera session was held at BRKR Bhavan in Hyderabad and lasted close to an hour in June this year.
During questioning, KCR was asked about major decisions such as shifting the project site from Tummidihatti to Medigadda, approvals, expert consultations, water storage, and funding. He reportedly stated that technical decisions were taken by engineers and cleared by the Cabinet.
KCR also submitted documents and a detailed presentation to the commission. After no further action followed, BRS leaders claimed the issue was dropped due to the explanations provided. They later used this outcome for political messaging.
The government has also pursued the Formula E case linked to alleged financial irregularities during the 2023 Hyderabad ePrix. The case pertains to the period when KTR served as Municipal Administration Minister under the BRS government.
KTR has been questioned multiple times by the ACB and the ED since an FIR was filed in December 2024. Recently, the Telangana Governor granted sanction to prosecute him. However, there has been little visible progress in the case.
With limited movement in earlier investigations, attention has now shifted to the phone tapping case. Political analysts say it will test the government’s resolve. A lack of follow through could weaken public trust.
If the case follows the pattern of previous probes, critics believe it may end after brief questioning. Such an outcome could reinforce perceptions of political vendetta. This may ultimately dilute Revanth Reddy’s image of political seriousness.
