After having served as the chief minister of Telangana for two terms, KCR ended up losing the 2023 assembly election and he has been rather hibernating since then. It has become rare to see KCR in the public space these days.
KCR is occasionally stepping out, but this is more for personal or courtesy reasons than politically significant gains.
Even today, KCR came out in Hyderabad to visit the BRS MLA Sudharshan Reddy, who had been undergoing significant medical distress and is currently being treated at the AIG hospital in the city.
Earlier, KCR was seen at the birthday celebrations of KTR within the premises of his farm house. This is about all the public appearance that he had been making in the recent past.
At a time when BRS is facing existential crisis in Telangana with both Congress and BJP, gaining significant ground since 2023, the absence of KCR to a large extent might be the worst possible outcome for the BRS leadership.
KCR took part in roughy three or four public conferences since the start of the BRS term in opposition and that’s about it. It was KTR and Harish Rao, who had to do the heavy lifting by interacting with the cadres and getting things done.
This was not in the best interests of Kavita, and she ended up getting pushed out from the party itself which is another detrimental outcome for those involved.
KCR did not appear to be bothered about the departure of his daughter but the actual political impact can be identified only after the election. But nevertheless, the opposition of Kavita can have some sort of an impact on the BRS.
With so many variables involved, KCR is perhaps the need of the hour for the BRS at a structural and fundamental level and only time will tell when he would be consolidated enough with his return to the active political arena.
