We keep on celebrating Independence day and Republic day every year, but even after several decades of independence, it is a shame the open defecation still exists in the country. Just a day before the Republic day, a girl from Telangana ended her life as her parents could not afford a toilet.

The incident occurred at Gundala village. The girl is 17 years old and is studying Intermediate First year. She doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire after her parents left for the work and was spot dead.
Her parents are farm labourers. She was repeatedly asking her parents to build a toilet as she have to go outside to answer the nature’s call. She resorted to this extreme step after her parents told they will be able to construct one by next summer.
