The 17th ATA Conference and Convention has concluded on July 1 – July 3, 2022, at the Walter E Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. This is the largest Telugu convention by any Telugu association in the United States after the Corona outbreak.
As a result, Telugu people have enthusiastically participated in the first such community gathering event in the past few years. Except for movies, there is no other recreation for the people. The big theme parks were also closed and even if they were open, there were doubts about the safety. So, this Convention comes as a big relief for them.
The Walter E Washington Convention Center is very huge and reflected the scale and range of the event. The event had reminded a Mini India with the desi families across the country came in to enjoy together.
The organizers have flown in some celebrities like Thaman, Rakul Preet Singh, Sunil Gavaskar, Upasana Kamineni, Sadhguru, Adivi Sesh, and others. A proper star value still missed. If not the turnout would have been even bigger.
A few politicians from the ruling parties of both the Telugu states came to the conference and mingled well with the people. There is no air of tantrums and so no inconvenience for the attendees.
But then, people did not show much enthusiasm to visit the YSR Congress and TRS pavilions and they were mostly empty. Also, there are no people sitting there to engage with the people who were passing by.
The food court is a mixed bag like most of the big events due to lack of smart management. The food choices are fewer and as a result, the queues are long.
Entertainment wise, the event is decent.
Surprisingly, Tanikella Bharani got full room of attendance. People enthusiastically listened to what he spoke. The musical performance by Thaman is a relief and drew good response.
The conversations between Upasana and Sadhguru were interesting. Rakul Preet Singh got good attention but she didn’t make it interesting.
Politicians like TRS Kavitha, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, M.V.V.Satyanarayana (YCP) flew from India for the event. Tv9 Rajinikanth Vellalacheruvu too attended the event and relaunched TV9 USA new station ID.
Overall, the 17th ATA Conference and Convention is neatly organized and interesting barring a few small issues. The organizers (President & the entire crew) have coordinated well and pulled off a good event. With this success, many more events will come up from Telugu associations in the coming days.
