People Lost Trust in Election Commission: PK

Prashant Kishor Election Commission

Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor has echoed the views of AICC chief and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the functioning of the Election Commission. In recent remarks, Kishor underlined growing concerns over the Commission’s impartiality and the public’s declining trust in it.

He referred to Rahul Gandhi’s earlier statement, where Gandhi had explained in detail how the Election Commission appeared to be acting in favour of the ruling BJP. Gandhi had strongly criticised the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) carried out in Bihar, which reportedly removed nearly 65 lakh voters. He alleged that this was a deliberate move aimed at removing Muslim voters and migrants from the electoral list.

Kishor stressed that when the Leader of Opposition speaks out about the Election Commission’s failures, it is a matter of national concern. He noted that in the past 7 to 8 years, multiple instances have shown a pattern of bias that has shaken public confidence in the institution.

He pointed out that voices from the opposition have often been silenced ahead of elections. While opposition leaders face legal action for speaking about religion, the ruling party continues to raise religious matters without facing any consequences. In several cases, raids have been conducted against opposition leaders, and the Election Commission has questioned their funding, raising eyebrows over the selective scrutiny.

According to Prashant Kishor, these actions have led to a serious erosion of trust among citizens. People now see the Commission as leaning clearly towards the ruling party. He stated that this shift in public perception has taken place since Narendra Modi came to power and that this situation demands serious reflection.
