Well-known film director and filmmaker Ramgopal Varma was arrested in Ongole but was released soon after two sureties were signed for him. The incident took place when he appeared before the police in response to summons.

The payment was said to have been made through AP Fibernet during the YSRCP government. Investigators also asked about the people involved in producing the controversial film Vyuham, which has been at the centre of recent political debates.

Police seized his mobile phone to retrieve relevant data. RGV is said to have cooperated fully with the officials during the process, though he refrained from giving clear or direct answers to several questions.

He had earlier tweeted about alliance leaders Chandrababu, Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan. His extreme political posts sparked rumours that he had rented out his X account to YSRCP, which intensified after morphed images of the leaders appeared online.

During questioning, he denied posting any such content, claiming that his account was being handled by others at the time. Despite the arrest, RGV was released soon after sureties were submitted on his behalf.

Following the incident, the director has kept a low profile and avoided social media, reportedly fearing further action or arrest over the ongoing controversy.
