
IT Minister Nara Lokesh will break ground for Rs 22,000 crore ReNew Energy Complex in Anantapur district on May 16. It has to be noted that the alliance government is attracting renewable energy projects in a big way.

After the Chandrababu-led government brought out the Integrated Clean Energy Policy (ICE), many companies are headed towards AP. As a part of the initiative, ReNew will be setting up Rs 22,000 crore India’s biggest Integrated Renewable Energy Complex in Bethapally in Guntakallu constituency in Anantapur district.
On May 16, Nara Lokesh will break ground as mentioned earlier. Talks happened at Davos World Economic Forum between Lokesh and ReNew chairman Sumanth Sinha. After six years, ReNew Power decided to return to Andhra Pradesh.

During the first phase, ReNew will invest Rs 7000 crore in solar, wind, battery storage units. It will invest Rs 22,000 crore in different phases to generate 1800 MW solar, 1 GW wind, 2000 MW battery storage. Apart from being India’s biggest renewable energy complex, it will increase AP’s clean energy capacity grid exponentially.
ReNew which had a 777 MW capacity unit in AP, withdrew from the state during Jagan’s term. In fact, due to myopic policies of YSRCP government, the renewable energy was almost nil in the state. After the alliance government came to power, they brought the Clean Energy Policy in October, 2024.

The industry-friendly ways, ease of doing business, sops for renewable energy companies, was explained by Nara Lokesh to Sinha at Davos, making the company re-enter Andhra Pradesh. Lokesh has set a target of 77GW for AP and is working incessantly to get more projects.
Reliance has come forward to set up 500 CBG plants across the state with an investment of Rs 65,000 crore. Lokesh broke ground for the first plant recently. Tata Power will be investing Rs 49,000 crore, NTPC Green Hydrogen project will invest Rs 1.86 lakh crore, Vedanta’s allied company Serantica will be investing Rs 50,000 crore, SAEL Industries will invest Rs 6000 crore, Brookfield will invest Rs 50,000 crore, apart from other companies. With so much happening, soon, AP will be the go-to state to invest in renewable energy.
