Film actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut was reprimanded by the Supreme Court after she sought relief from a defamation case. She had filed a petition to strike down the case against her. Instead of support, the court expressed anger over her plea.
The jury remarked that she had gone beyond a simple retweet and added unnecessary masala, dismissing her petition. Earlier, the High Court had also rejected her request for relief.
The issue dates back to the farmer dharnas of 2020–21 against farm reforms. During that period, Kangana had made defamatory remarks against 73-year-old Mahinder Kaur. She had also retweeted a post comparing Mahinder Kaur to Bilkis Bano, who joined the Shaheen Bagh protests for citizenship rights.
Following this, Mahinder Kaur filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut. The comments drew wide criticism at the time, as farmers across the nation were protesting on Delhi’s borders. Kangana has often been in the spotlight for her controversial statements.
