Some of the departments of Telangana government are continuing to harass the Hyderbad Metro officials and delay the construction works. Already the project is plagued by several issues and the concessionaire is repeatedly telling the state government that the project is becoming financially less viable after the state bifurcation and the alignment changes proposed.
Adding to the woes, RTA officials of Telangana off late are seizing the heavy vehicles from construction sites for non-payment of tax. The Concessionaire is taking up the issue with the government to make sure the taxes are not levied but RTA officials are gearing up to impose penalties on them.
The penalty for not paying tax will be decided based on size, year of manufacture, and other factors. And for each month after seizure, two per cent interest will be levied. L&T argues that they are temporarily in the city for construction work and are not liable to pay any tax. L&T even approached the high court on this issue which directed the formation of a committee of senior officials to decide whether the seized heavy vehicles were taxable by the RTA or not.
