The Telangana election date is rapidly approaching, and the three major parties are engaged in constant mudslinging, attempting to convince the public of their agendas.
To target the newer generation and facilitate easy penetration through WhatsApp, they have come up with creative digital ads.
These ads mostly shame leaders from rival parties, with many being below-the-belt video clips that are now going viral.
However, the Election Commission has intervened, putting a halt to all political advertisements in Telangana. The EC canceled the approval for these ads and directed the media to take them down, citing a violation of the MCMC code.
This move is likely to disappoint the parties, considering WhatsApp’s significant role these days in reaching places leaders might not have time to go. It remains to be seen whether these parties, in full-on aggression mode, will implement the EC’s orders and cease promotion.
The bigger challenge lies in the near-impossibility of preventing the public from sharing these video ads.
