Anti-Delimitation resolution was proposed by CM Revanth Reddy in state Assembly. The CM said it was not right on the part of Central government to not take the opinions of states on the matter.
He amplified the need to ensure that the states that had less population don’t suffer. The present Parliamentary constituencies must be continued, he said.
Instead, it would be a better idea if the Assembly constituencies are increased to 153 seats, he proposed. He underscored the need to increase the number of SC, ST seats on the occasion.
In 2026, the Center is planning to carry out a population census and go ahead with delimitation. But this will penalise the states that diligently followed the family planning policy, he said.
The northern states did not control population due to which delimitation could mean limitation of the south, said Revanth Reddy.
Though it is clearly mentioned in Reorganisation Act that the Assembly constituencies be redefined, the Central government did so only in Jammu and Kashmir and Asom where it was convenient for them.
Apart from finances, the south is likely to lose out in terms of jobs and employment opportunities, the CM expressed his anguish. The Center is likely to redistribute parliamentary seats and this would mean that governments would be formed without the south having a say, Revanth Reddy opined.
