ECI vs TRS: Kavitha’s Party Demands Fair Hearing

Kalvakuntla Kavitha on TRS ECI notice

TRS led by Kalvakuntla Kavitha, has formally challenged the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directive to alter its name, strongly protesting the lack of transparency in the dispute process.

The newly formed regional outfit has explicitly requested the commission to furnish full copies of the estimated 1,000 complaints cited against its registration, questioning how the party can submit a comprehensive legal defense without reviewing the actual text and authenticity of the objections.

The party strongly defended its current identity by highlighting its extensive grassroots expansion since the ECI initially cleared the name in April, noting that local cadre have already hoisted the party flag across 105 Assembly constituencies.

Forcing a structural name change at this advanced stage would inflict unfair operational and logistical setbacks on their established public outreach. The leadership maintains that the timing of this directive undermines the progress and significant organizational investments already made by the party’s supporters across the state.

Confronting the poll panel’s scrutiny, the leadership pointed out a double standard in registration approvals within the region by highlighting multiple political outfits with overlapping nomenclature that coexist with official recognition.

Citing national precedents where multiple variants of the Aam Aadmi party or the Republican Party of India operate simultaneously, the TRS argued that targeted objections should not be used uniquely against them. The party has demanded a formal, personal hearing to state its case after the commission transparently hands over all hidden objection documents.
