Pragathi Bhavan is the official bungalow of the Telangana Chief Minister. The then Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao was so sentimental about Vaastu. He used to stay away from the old Secretariat complex doubting its Vaastu.
But there were so many issues for demolishing the secretariat and for constructing a new one. So, he constructed Pragathi Bhavan as a stop-gap arrangement and used it as his camp office. Even after the construction of the new secretariat, KCR rarely went there and used to confine himself to Pragathi Bhavan mostly.
The sprawling building, built on a nine-acre land at Begumpet in the heart of the city, cost around 50 Crore.
It was supposed to be the residence and the camp office of the Chief Minister. But Revanth Reddy decided not to use it.
There are rumors that Revanth Reddy believes the Vaastu of Pragathi Bhavan does not suit him. Moreover, he feels Pragathi Bhavan got so much of a bad name for KCR due to accessibility issues. So, he had decided not to use it.
Pragathi Bhavan was renamed Praja Bhavan after the government changed and Revanth announced that its gates would be always open to the Public.
Now, it has been allotted as the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Pragati Bhavan (Praja Bhavan) was built after demolishing 10 IAS Officers’ quarters and 24 peon quarters at the officers’ colony. It is a collection of five buildings- the residence, the chief minister’s office, Janahitha (meeting hall), the old CM residence, and the camp office.
Revanth Reddy will work from the Secretariat. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute (MCRHRD), which is closer to his residence at Jubilee Hills will house his camp office. In all probability, the Vivekananda Block of the Institute might be used as the camp office of the chief minister
