When the exercise is almost complete, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao out of nowhere, increased the number of new districts to Seventeen, increasing three to their earlier 14. Hanmakonda, Peddapalli, and Shamshabad are the new districts added to the official draft policy. That will take the total districts to 27 in Telangana.

The government will call for an All-Party meeting on 20th of this month and discuss the draft policy which is more or less a formality. While government sources say, the Chief Minister had decided to increase the count on the basis of population, the doubt will arise why a small issue like Population was not considered after months of homework.

Last minute decisions like this in crucial issues will have long term effects if things are not done with scientific analysis. The draft policy will now have to be ratified by the cabinet next and is likely to be placed in Assembly when the house sits for a special session to pass GST. The new districts will come into effect from Dussehra.
