International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 and promoting it is PM Modi’s pet project. Closer home, in Andhra Pradesh, Yoga Day has been celebrated for a decade now.
This year, in 2025, PM Modi expressed his wish to be a part of Yoga Day celebrations in Vizag when he attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Amaravati. To make his wish a reality and to motivate people to lead healthy lives, CM Chandrababu has taken it upon himself to start the 11th year with a bang.

On June 21, the Vizag beach will see 5 lakh people performing various asanas trying to create a new Guinness Book record. The 28-km stretch between RK Beach in Vizag to Bheemunipatnam will see 5 lakh participants performing yoga. The young, the old, the experienced and new… will all be part of the ambitious event.
The objective is to create a record for world’s largest open air yoga event. It will see PM Modi and CM Chandrababu performing with the participants.

A trial run was held on May 21 to check the footfall, spacing and synchronisation. All logistics operations are being overseen by AYUSH, Vizag District Department of Sports and Andhra University Department of yoga.
About 10,000 sports persons will attend the event. Medical camps will be set up every kilometer, there will be 200 ambulances and 2000 CCTV cameras. 300 compartments will be set up along the Beach road where 1000 participants each will perform.
The highlight of the event will be Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), a structured session designed by the Ministry of Ayush. The session will begin with 1 minute prayer, 6 minutes of loosening practices, 25 minutes of yogasana sequence and a final segment of pranayama, dhyana and sankalpa.
Yoga gurus from Isha Foundation Art of Living, Patanjali Yogpeeth and Indian Navy will lead the programme. Registrations can be done through Yogandhra website till June 21, 2025.
